Pearl Foundation Mission

The Pearl Foundation Incorporated is the charitable affiliate of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Lambda Omega Chapter. The mission of the Pearl Foundation, Incorporated is to support broad educational, charitable, and community service programs that uphold the mission and values of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in the communities we serve.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

On January 15, 1908, Ethel Hedgeman Lyle and fifteen young African American women fulfilled their dream when Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was founded at Howard University in Washington, DC. Since 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has implemented programs of service impacting countless lives. The 2014-­‐2018 International Program will focus on Launch New Dimensions of Service™. Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Lambda Omega Chapter will address community needs in five target areas: Educational Enrichment, Health Promotion, Family Strengthening, Environmental Ownership, and Global Impact. The Pearl Foundation Scholarship supports the Educational Enrichment programs of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Iota Lambda Omega Chapter.

Selection Criteria:

All applications will be evaluated on the following criteria

  • Applicants must be Howard County Residents.
  • Applicants must be high school seniors (but do not have to attend a Howard County high school).
  • If selected, Applicants must be officially enrolled in a postsecondary institution the semester immediately following the date of the Pearl Foundation Scholarship award.
  • Applicants must submit the following:
    • Completed Application Form
    • Completed Minor Media Release Form
    • Resume that includes:
      • Academic achievements
      • Awards
      • Recognition
      • School activities
      • Community activities
      • Leadership positions held
    • An official transcript including 1st semester senior grades and SAT or ACT test scores 5.
    • A reference letter from a guidance counselor, teacher, or community member that includes contact information
    • In one page, or a maximum of two, describe how this scholarship will assist you in accomplishing your personal and career goals

Note: Immediate family members of Pearl Foundation, Incorporated members are ineligible. (Immediate family are defined as children, grand children, brothers, sisters, in-­‐laws, adopted, half and step members)
